UGC NET Exam Pattern 2021: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given the responsibility to conduct the UGC NET exam to check the candidate’s eligibility for the post of ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ both in Indian universities and colleges.
From June 2020 onwards, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment/ Minority Affair shall also conduct the following Fellowships program recruitment through the NET 2023 exam.:
- National Fellowship for Scheduled Students
- National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes
- Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority candidates
UGC-NET Exam Pattern 2023
NTA UGC NET exam will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) having objective types of questions with multiple choices.
The Exam pattern consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. There will be 50 Multiple-choice questions in Paper-1 and 100 multiple-choice questions in Paper-2.
Candidates will have to attempt both papers simultaneously, there will be no break between both papers. Candidates will get 3 hours to complete both papers. There is no fixed timing for any paper.
There will be no negative marking in the UGC NET Exam and for each correct answer, 2 marks will be awarded.
The exam pattern of Paper-1 & Paper-2 is given below:

Important points about NET Exam:
- NET Exam will be an online objective-type test
- The total duration for the main exam will be 3 hours.
- There is no separate timing and the candidate can attempt any paper as per his/her choice in 3 hours
- Candidates will have to attempt 150 questions carrying 300 marks
- For each correct answer, the candidate will get 2 marks.
- Candidates can attempt all questions in the exam.
- No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/Marked for Review.
- There is no negative marking for an incorrect response.
Details about both Papers:
There will be a total of 10 sections in the UGC NET Paper-1. Paper-1 is designed with questions that are intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test the reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.

Note: During the Answer Key challenge, if any question is found to be incorrect then the credit will be given to only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers during the NET exam.
