e-EPIC Voter ID Card download: The Election Commission of India has launched a new Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card (E-EPIC). It is a digital Voter ID Card similar to the e Aadhar Card and PAN card which is already available in digital form.
IT Minister Shri Ravishankar Prasad launched the e-EPIC card facility while celebrating National Voter’s Day[1] [2] (25th January 2021).
Note: Previously only those voters can download the e-EPIC who had applied for the voter ID card after November 2020 and had a unique mobile number in the National Voter’s database. Now the facility to download the e-EPIC card is available for all citizens[3].

Voter ID e-EPIC Download From the New NVSP Portal
“New July 2023 Update: As per the new update, the Election Commission of India has migrated all of its services to the newly developed NVSP portal. The new portal is currently working at https://voters.eci.gov.in/.
Previously the NVSP portal was working on the https://www.nvsp.in/ portal. Now if you want to access any service then you will have to register a new account on the new portal.“
To download the EPIC card, visit the new NVSP portal https://voters.eci.gov.in/, click the E-EPIC Download link, log in to your account, and enter your EPIC no. or Reference no.
What is an e-EPIC?
An Electoral Photo Identity Card, in short EPIC, is an identity document issued by the Electoral Registration Officer under Rule 28 of R. E. Rules4. Voters must present their EPIC as the identity proof at the polling station. e-EPIC is the electronic version of the EPIC card that can be used online or offline after taking a printout as an identity proof.
Steps to download the e-EPIC?

- Open the Official Website.
- Click the E-EPIC Download Link.
- Login to Your Account.
- Download Your Digital Voter ID Card.
Let’s check out all the steps in detail.
Step 1: Open the Official Website.
First of all, open the official website. The new portal is accessible at https://voters.eci.gov.in/. Click this link to visit the official website.
Step 2: Click the E-EPIC Download Link.
On the homepage of the official website, there is an E-EPIC Download link. Click this link to download a digital version of your photo identity card.
Step 3: Log in to Your Account.
After clicking the E-EPIC Download link, you will see a login page on the screen (as shown below).
Enter your login credentials such as your mobile number or EPIC no and password and given captcha code. Click the Request OTP button after entering all the details in the login form.
Step 4: Download Your Digital Voter ID Card.
After login to your account, you can now download your e-EPIC Voter ID card.
You will see an online form to download the electronic EPIC card (as shown above). You can download EPIC through two options.
- By EPIC no. – Enter EPIC no. and select your state. After that, click the Search button.
- By Reference no. – Enter Enter REF_NO and select your state. After that, click the Search button.
After searching, download your digital Voter ID card. You will get your digital Voter card in a secure PDF file.

Note: I have also downloaded my e-EPIC card from the voters.eci.gov.in portal. While following the above steps, I got to know a few important things that I want to share with you all.
- When I was downloading the eEPIC card First time, I got an error that my mobile number was not connected to my Voter ID card. Please update your mobile number. We must complete KYC by updating our mobile number with our Voter ID card.
- After that, to link my mobile number with my Voter ID card, I submitted ‘Form 8’ which is used to correct entries in the existing electoral roll.
- I also thought to update my photo so I have uploaded my recent passport-size photograph in Form 8.
- I also got a reference number which I used to check the current status of my application.
- Later after 2 to 3 months, when I was tracking the status, the status showed that my application was rejected due to a photograph issue.
- I again submitted Form 8 by including my mobile number and a new photograph.
- The second attempt was also not successful and my application was again rejected due to a photograph issue.
- The third time, I properly checked the photograph dimensions and uploaded it again.
- Later after 3 months, my mobile number and photograph were updated with my Voter ID card.
- After updating the mobile number, I again followed the instructions to download the e-EPIC card.
- Now I have my electronic identity card that I can use anywhere as an identity proof.
What I learned through this 1+ year-long process is that…
- If you just want to download the e-EPIC card then just update your mobile number and don’t change your photo. It will save you time and the process will be completed within 2 months.
- If you want to update your photograph also, please take care of the photograph size, and dimensions, and ensure that the photo is visible.
- If you are not able to complete your KYC online then Visit the ERO office along with your Photo ID proof and update your mobile number.
Information Available on the e-EPIC card?
Your digital Voter ID card will have the below-mentioned information.
- On the top side, you will see the front part of your e-elector photo identity card and the back side will be shown on the right side.
- You can check your name, name, father’s name, gender, date of birth, and EPIC number on the front part.
- Your address and e-EPIC card download date are available on the backside.
- In the mid part, you will find a QR code on the left side and your EPIC no., Serial number, Assembly Constituency No. and Name, Part No. and Name, and Polling Station Address on the right side.
- Other important information is available at the bottom side.
Benefits of an e-EPIC card?
- e-EPIC is a portable document format(PDF) version of the EPIC that can be downloaded on mobile or in a self-printable form on the computer.
- Voters can take it anywhere by storing it on their mobile phone, Digi locker, or any other secure online tool such as email.
- Voters can also take a printout of an e-EPIC card and laminate it.
- It is equally valid similar to the PCV EPIC card which is given to new enrollment.
- It’s a faster way to get an updated identity proof in a digital format.
- Voters can also bring it to the polling station as proof of identity.
- It works as a self-service model where citizens can update their EPIC card online and download it[5].
Download e-EPIC through the Voter Helpline mobile App.
The Voter Helpline mobile app is available for both Android and iOS smartphones. We can download the e-EPIC card by tapping the ‘Download e-EPIC’ in the Voter Helpline App. We have to log in to our account and after login, we can easily get the digital voter ID card in a PDF file on our mobile device[6].

How to get a colored Voter ID Card?
The Election Commission of India used to use a Black and White Voter ID Card for all citizens. Now ECI has introduced a new Voter ID Card format which is a colored PCV-based plastic card.
The New colored Voter ID card will include a serial number and color photo including all details of the old card. You can download a colored Voter ID card with the help of the below steps.
1- Open the official website https://voterportal.eci.gov.in.
2- Apply for a new ID card or Correction in the ID card.
2- On the selection page select Voter ID in a new format option.
4- Upload relevant documents and apply. You will have to pay Rs 30 for a colored Voter ID card.
