What is the NVSP portal?

National Voter’s Services Portal (NVSP) was developed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to provide important services such as new Elector/Voter registration, Voter Deletion, Electoral Roll Correction, application status tracking, download e-EPIC, and important forms online, etc.

The Election Commission of India has appointed booth-level officers in every district in India. These BLOs are responsible for verifying a new voter ID application for Voter ID Registration that is submitted through the offline and online modes. BLO is a representative of the Election Commission of India at the grassroots level who plays a pivotal role in the process of roll revision and collecting actual field information concerning the roll corresponding to the polling area assigned to him1.

Now there is no need to visit the Block level officers to register for voting. All citizens can use this portal to apply for a new EPIC number online.

Once you apply for a new voter ID online these officers check all details and verify the application if all pieces of information are correct. After the verification, you can collect your Voter ID card from your nearest office.2

Now NVSP portal is also providing an e-EPIC card which is also valid everywhere. Citizens can download this eEPIC card online and laminate it.

NVSP Portal History

Hon’ble Former President of India Dr. Abdul Kalam launched the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP) on 25th January 2015 on the occasion of National Voters’ Day4.

Before NVSP, there was no online tool or online public service platform to access voter-related citizen services including applying for a new voter ID card, making corrections, shifting, or deletion, etc. There was no application tracking system also. In 2015, the government decided to provide a single window system to citizens to access various services in an online mode5. ECI launched the NVSP portal in 2015.

Initially, the NVSP portal was available on the ECI website (www.eci.nic.in) through a link. Users were able to access the portal by clicking the NVSP link. Later a separate web portal https://www.nvsp.in/ was developed to provide all voters services.

After some time a new voter portal https://voterportal.eci.gov.in/ was developed with a new modern interface. Nvsp.in portal was also working. Recently, the Election Commission of India has updated the nvsp.in portal in 2013 and launched a new portal https://voters.eci.gov.in/.

voterportal.eci.gov.in is also modified and made almost similar to voters.eci.gov.in in terms of look, functionality, and the services it offers. voters.eci.gov.in is the currently used (as of 12 April 2024) updated version of the NVSP portal.

ECI has also introduced AI-powered Voter Mitra[ 6 ] in the Voter Portal which is a personal digital assistant that helps you to apply for various services available on the portal.
